Safe as Houses (2020)

Throughout 2019 and into 2020 I made twilight photographs of manufactured homes in my parents’ senior community, letting light guide me toward moments of visual interest among prefab houses situated in tight rows on narrow lots. In photographing the last neighborhood my parents will call home, the complicated nature of family relationships inevitably finds expression. The images take on a cinematic haze that conjures moods of disconnection and tenderness, too. As the pandemic forced us apart they acquired a subtext of senior isolation and family separation.
